As temperatures rise, so does the need for water safety classes

The heat is here and the City of Imperial is preparing for the Summer by offering lifeguard and water safety instructor courses.

The courses are being offered by the American Red Cross for ages 15 and up but space is limited.

Imperial also provides a strong swim lesson program that offers over 400 swim lesson sessions within a 9 week span. We spoke to organizers who are gearing up for the hot season.

“It will run tomorrow starting from 5-8, they will be tested in their water swimming skills and they will start their class training throughout the weekend so they can become certified as lifeguards,” said Ember Haller, Community Services Direct with the City of Imperial.

“We are holding water safety instructor classes which is also an American Red Cross program and that will be offered at the end of May, the last two weekends of May. Those are classes for swimmers as well, that enjoy being in the pool, that want to learn how to teach swim lessons to people of all ages,” added Haller.

People interested in participating in the lifeguard program are out of luck as it has already reached its capacity.

But if you are interested in learning how to give swim lessons or if you want to enroll your child into swim classes, you can visit http://www.cityofimperial.org/ for more information.
