Local Boy Scout makes huge donation
A local boy scout is giving back to the community. Seventeen year old, M ark Lavin is a boy scout in Yuma that wanted to give back to the Humane Society of Yuma. His objective? Get as many donations as possible. He and his family spent two weekends in front of the foothills Walmart asking people to donate whatever they could in support of the shelter and the results greatly surpassed his expectations. He thought he would get a couple hundred pounds or so of items, never guessing the total weight would add up to two tons. Lavin explains why he decided to help out. “I love the animals and I feel like I just want to help them the best I can. During this time of year, the humane society looses about 80 percent of their donations, so i’m just trying to help them the best I can,” said Lavin. The donations ranged from dog and cat food to paper towels and dish soap. After Lavin and his family loaded up the u-haul, they took all the donations to the shelter. HSOY has confirmed that this is the largest donation that they have ever received.
