Topic of the Day: Trump Billboard

The City of Phoenix is known for it’s iconic skyline and each year tourists flock to the city’s downtown area to see Chase Field, Symphony Hall and the city’s Space Park. But, a new attraction which lies just shy of downtown is causing a stir.

A billboard has been erected and since it was unveiled it’s been met with mixed reviews. On it, a stern President Donald J. Trump centered between two dollar insignia, which look a lot like swastikas; in the background two nuclear mushroom clouds and resting on the president’s lapel is a flag pin, and it’s not an American one.

The artwork is the creation of Phoenix Artist and Activist Karen Fiorito who has said she created the artwork because she feels the country is heading to a dictatorship. This isn’t the first Fiorito has taken to the skies to protest, in the past she’s used the same tactic against Fox News and former President George W. Bush.

Phoenix residents and visitors have had mixed reviews about the billboard; while some find the art to be offensive and disrespectful, others don’t want to see President Trump on any billboard regardless if it’s positive or negative.

In just the past week the artist has received several threats and she tells media sources that people need to see both sides of the picture, literally. Depicted on the other side of the billboard is a picture of hands reading “unity” in sign language with the word above.
