NASA Orion parachute testing continues at Yuma Proving Ground

A sky view from YPG is giving NASA the results for the future in space.

This is the second out of eight tests to certify the parachute system that will be used for future space missions. Victor Glover who is an astronaut for NASA,tells us why these parachutes are vital for landing procedures.

“This has to work, all of the parachutes you see after it comes out of vehicle- those all have to fire.It has to work perfectly after being in space in that subjective environment.”

The reason for these tests, is to give the “green light” on the parachute system for crewed flights in the future. NASA Astronaut Stan Love says he think these procedures are a step towards astronauts on Mars.

“It’s one step of very many, and it’s going to be a long journey. There are many tough technical problems that yet we have to solve. The parachutes on the Orion are one tiny part of it, but again it’s going to be a tough journey.”
