Man behind bars after crashing truck into home and fleeing scene

The Yuma Police Department says 26-year-old Carlos Gutierrez was driving down 47th Drive in Yuma early Saturday morning when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a brick wall by the intersection of 47th Drive and West 20th Place.

Gutierrez continued in his Chevy Silverado–crashing into the home itself and causing major structural damage.

Gutierrez fled the scene and police eventually found him at his home covered in mud from leaving his vehicle in a nearby field.

Gutierrez has been arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center.

According the to Yuma County Detention Center, Gutierrez faces felony charges of Criminal Damage, Endangerment, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Reckless driving, DUI, and Failure to Remain at Scene of Accident.

This case is currently under investigation.
