YPD receives a spay and neuter grant

The Yuma Police Department received two grants in regards to helping Yuma locals take care of their pets. The Yuma city council approved the use of grant funds provided by the Arizona companion animal spay and neuter committee.

These two grants are meant to provide assistance with spaying and neutering of domesticated dogs, cats and feral cats. Each grant is worth up to five thousand dollars. While city residents are eligible to have their pet dogs or cats spayed or neutered at a reduced price through the humane society, the vouchers that are issued will cover most, if not all, of the cost of the surgery. Sergeant Lori Franklin of the Yuma Police Department explains the details of the grant and how you can go about getting a voucher for your pets. “The money that we have is a five thousand dollar grant for the domestic animals. We have to use that up by August, so either when the money is gone or by august we have to have it finalized. Right now, it is two pets per household. Call us, come in…they’ll go over your budgets and stuff. If you qualify for the grant money, then you’ll receive money from the Police Department to help you with the spay and neuter of your animals.” In order to use the vouchers if you qualify, the pets must receive an anti-rabies vaccine and a city license as part of the process.
