Impairment may have played factor in Yuma crash

The Yuma Police Department said impairment may have played a factor in a crash that sent three people to a Phoenix area hospital due to the extent of their injuries. The crash happened Wednesday evening on Pacific Avenue and 32 th Street.

YPD said the initial investigation revealed a 1995 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on 32 nd Street and was attempting to make a left hand turn onto Pacific Avenue. The driver of the Honda, a 24-year-old woman, failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with a 2003 Kia Sorento that was traveling westbound on 32 nd Street.

There were seven occupants and two dogs in the Honda: two adult females, two adult males, two juvenile males and one juvenile female. There was one occupant in the Kia, a female driver. All eight occupants were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for injuries, in which two adults and one juvenile were flown to a Phoenix area hospital due to their injuries.

This case is still under investigation and impairment may be a factor.

The Yuma Police Department is asking for any witnesses to this collision to please come forward and call Detective E. Carrillo at the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
