Magnitude 3.9 earthquake shakes part of Southern California
Parts of Southern California have been shaken by a light earthquake centered in wilderness.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the 9:56 a.m. Wednesday quake was magnitude 3.9 and occurred 6 miles beneath the San Bernardino Mountains about 10 miles north of Morongo Valley.
The area is about 100 miles east of Los Angeles.
Early Wednesday, parts of Northern California and Nevada were shaken by a series of quakes greater than magnitude 5 and smaller aftershocks centered about 70 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe.
