Police: homicide suspect may be heading to Yuma or El Centro

The Salinas Police Department believes a suspect tied to a double-homicide may be heading to El Centro, California or Yuma, Arizona.

Police said a relative found a man and woman dead in a home in Salinas Tuesday. Police said there were signs of a violent encounter in the home.

Salinas police said the investigation has revealed that 25-year-old Ellin “Omar” Escamilla lived at the home, and is the person responsible for the deaths of both victims.

A felony “no-bail” warrant has been issued for his arrest charging two counts of homicide. The names of the victims are not being released at this time, pending confirmation of identity by the Monterey County Coroner.

It is expected this will occur sometime late Friday afternoon and a subsequent release will be completed at that time. Detectives have received confirmed sightings of Escamilla in the greater Los Angeles area and the vehicle he had been diving, a brown Lincoln MKX CA: 6SMS157 has been located and recovered.

Police believe Escamilla may be in route to the El Centro or the Yuma area based upon past work and family history.
