Family member of local man killed speaks out

Two weeks ago marks the night a resident at the Lothlorien Apartment complex in Yuma was shot and killed by a man unidentified by the Yuma Police Department.

Police said 24-year-old Anthony Ramirez was allegedly in the middle of a domestic altercation with his girlfriend when the shooting occurred.

According to Yuma police officials, a bystander shot and killed him after witnessing the altercation.

The ex brother-in-law of Ramirez, Andrew, reached out to the 13 On Your Side team.

He said he chooses not to disclose his last name, but adds that he and the rest of the Ramirez family is devastated by the loss.

“Everybody’s hurt. We’re hurt even more because of what’s going on,” Andrew said. “I think the fact that justice has not been served, that this guy is not in jail, is hurting everybody even more. Because [we] feel like justice is not being served.”

While the case is still under investigation, Andrew and the rest of the Ramirez family question why criminal charges have not been made at this time.

He said the most difficult part of his death, is thinking about what Ramirez’s six year old son is going through.

“The first thing I thought of was his son,” Andrew said. “That hurts me because just thinking of a little boy, six years old, I’m crying just thinking about it. I wouldn’t wish that upon my worst enemy.”
