Thousands of early ballots still left to be counted

Officials with the Yuma County Recorder’s Office said there are still thousands of early ballots and hundreds of provisional ballots left to verify, process and count.

They explain that during each election cycle, across the country hundreds of thousands of ballots are sometimes not counted on Election Day.

After Election Day, Yuma County election officials continue to ensure every eligible ballot is counted accurately and certify final election results when the Yuma County Board of Supervisors canvasses the election, meaning examining and confirming the results.

For the November 8 General Election, county elections officials have until November 18 to finish processing provisional ballots and until December 2 to report their certified vote counts to Arizona Secretary of State.

Currently, there are approximately 6,233 Early Ballots and 1,470 Provisional Ballots remaining to verify, process and count.

The Yuma County Recorder’s Office will be verifying these remaining ballots over the next several days and it could extend into the early part of next week. Yuma County Election’s Office will immediately tabulate following verification.

Officials said more results are expected to be released Friday at 5 p.m.
