APS warns customers about scam
Yuma police are warning Arizona Public Service customers of a phone scam going on in the Desert Southwest.
Customers say they are receiving phone calls from people claiming to be APS representatives. The scammers tell customers they have to pay their overdue power bill or their power will be turned off in 45 minutes. They then give the unsuspecting victim a phone number and a name to call in order to pay the false bill.
APS is aware of the scam and wants to warn customers that they will never ask for payment through a prepaid card. APS officials say the only valid phone number to call is listed on customer bills that are mailed or on APS.com.
