Humane Society of Yuma aims to reach $5,000 of sponsored adoptions by Saturday

Tails are wagging at the Humane Society of Yuma after a strong week, ending with a monumental number of adoptions.

“Friday to Saturday we did 53 adoptions, which is actually a really really good weekend,” shares HSOY Director of Development Lana Shapiro.

The shelter usually averages 10 to 20 adoptions a week, making their Fall Festival weekend numbers tremendous. Quail Construction sponsored adoptions for that weekend and after receiving the weekend’s numbers they decided to extend the sponsored adoptions.

“They decided to extend it to the end of the week and we were incredibly thankful for that,” explains Shapiro. “Our goal was to reach that $5,000 mark for their sponsored adoptions and right now we’re at about 77 adoptions total. ”

The shelter has seen foot traffic increase with the sponsored adoptions–so much so that an entire kennel of dogs was emptied–a cause for celebration for the HSOY staff.

“It is a huge, huge deal,” stresses Shapiro. “We just get animals in every single day, so to have an entire building be empty is a huge deal. ”

The Humane Society of Yuma invites the community to visit the shelter or their partner PetSmart location for a chance to meet the pets just waiting for their forever home.

Adopters will receive a $40 credit. The last day for sponsored adoptions is Saturday, October 22.
