Arizona Western College adds to the Hall of Fame

Arizona Western College kicks off their homecoming week by having their AWC Alumni Breakfast and Hall of Fame Celebration.

This year they honor two alumni who have contributed to the college’s growth and development throughout the year. Renee Smith, the AWC Director of Institutional Advancement,is excited to have the alumni come back and give back to the community.

” We’re just really excited, especially at this time of year, homecoming is next week, and so it ties in with the Arizona Western College pride and how we feel about the college, our jobs, and the students, and what we’re doing to help these students succeed, so this is the perfect opportunity not only to recognize our hall of fame recipients, but to bring them into what we’re doing at Arizona Western College.” Smith says.

This year they are honoring Olivia Zepeda and Candy Camarena for their service. For Olivia Zepeda, she hopes the alumni return to AWC to give back.

Zepeda tell us ” I work at AWC as a teach aid, I taught for AWC, I contributed one way or another and was apart of the board of foundation, now a board member of the governing board. My best years were when I was a student here, I guess what I want to share with people more than anything is when you become a success and you have already completed your career don’t forget about Arizona western college come and support because they are the ones who will be contributing to the next generation and so on, so come back be part of the foundation be part of the projects that awc has because it’s part of that future building.”

Candy Camerena believes that bring educated is one of the most important things you should take advantage of.

” I have for so many years not only seen the vision, but also help contribute the vision to AWC. To educate as many people as you can so I’m one of those people who is a strong believer if you have the ability and the time you should get educated. ”
