Salvation Army starts Chirstmas assistance
The annual Salvation Army Christmas Assistance sign up event brings hundreds of applicants throughout the week for help around the holiday season.
Just last year, the Salvation Army helped over nine hundred families with a food box for Christmas dinner, and toys for the children. Lieutenant Tim Brown, is hoping for the same turn out this year.
“S eeing a family that’s struggling to make ends meat, especially the parents, you know, just almost lamenting over the fact that they can’t provide for their family and just being able to step in there-that need is very rewarding. We’re expecting as much as last year, we also give away five thousand toys to children.”
The Salvation Army is always accepting volunteers, and for them, it’s the best time of the year. For Isabel Pena, this is her fifth time helping families out during the holidays.
“I come from a big family, twelve grand kids, three daughters, and I have two great grandchildren also. I feel very great it just opens my heart, it’s so me so full and happy and content and to know that everybody especially all the children in Yuma are getting a little toy especially this time of need during the holidays.”
Sign ups for Christmas Assistance is going on all this week from 9 to 5 at the Salvation Army Family Thrift Store and donations are always welcomed in store or pick up.
