Groundbreaking Ceremony RCBH

After three years, the city of Somerton is in the process of building a state of the art medical center that will provide a range of services and prepare students for the medical field.

Amanda Aguirre, the president of Regional Center of Border Health was the speaker of the event and excited for the city of Somerton to have access to medical care.

“To be able to bring this type of services in the community in Yuma County. This will be a state of the art Medical Center that will provide a comprehensive medical care, that is integrated with physical and mental health. Of course, the services- a pharmacy, a drive thru pharmacy and of course the training of college health careers.”, Aguirre says.

The medical complex will not only help the community with medical attention, but will create opportunities in the future. Aguirre tells us “Well we’re going to create jobs, provide training and also the people that we will employ for the services we need to provide to this community. The other building is the College of Health Careers and it provides several vocational training programs from medical assistance to CNA’s that have already graduated a thosand students that have been placing jobs and are working above the minimum wage. Completion of the project is expected to be done within nine months, but we can see Somerton growing in the community until then. Newley elected mayor, Jose Yepez is looking forward to what next year could bring. ” I think we are there in population, we are also there in infrastructure, our water capacities… we have our new City Hall that’s coming in, looking earlier next year to be completed, a new high school and a new park for our community the west side of Somerton, so we have a lot of interesting projects, so hopefully that will be our catalyst for other businesses or other opportunities to come into Somerton- things are looking pretty good. ” Yepez says.
