Breakfast with Champions in Yuma

A special breakfast dedicated to athletes and volunteers with the Special Olympics Arizona took place Wednesday morning at the Palms RV Resort.

This is the first time Yuma has hosted “Breakfast with Champions”, an event that brings the community together and raises funds for the Special Olympics.

“The Breakfast of Champions event is a fundraiser to raise important dollars for programs right here in Yuma, and those dollars help support the athletes with competitions throughout the year along with other activities throughout the year,” said Miguel Quezada, the State Development Director for Special Olympics Arizona.

The room was filled with family, friends, teachers, and law enforcement. People around the room showed their support by donating any amount of money they chose to the organization. Law enforcement is one of the biggest supporters of the Special Olympics, bringing in $1 million to Arizona alone.

Quezada tells us, “Special Olympics is everyday of the year. We celebrate acceptance, inclusion, and respect. We serve all fifteen counties of Arizona.Individuals with intellectual disabilities are important members of this community and this event celebrates that.”
