I-8 Dogwood Road Interchange near completion
EL CENTRO, Calif. – Caltrans, along with the Imperial County Transportation Commission and the city of El Centro held a celebration this morning ( Wednesday ) to honor the near completion of the Interstate 8 Dogwood Road interchange. “This project has meant jobs, improved road conditions and ultimately a better transportation system for the region. Not to mention faster much improved access to shopping, who doesn’t like that and local businesses here. We now it is 28 million dollars very well spent,” said Laurie Berman, Caltrans District Director. Many speakers took part in the celebration including Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia. “As others at the national level, even the state level are talking about building walls, were talking about building bridges and building roads. And making sure we can actually improve the economic opportunities and regions like Imperial County.” Speakers in attendance activated a changeable message sign which is the first of its kind in the whole state of California. The sign will give motorists real-time traffic safety and guidance information about planned and unplanned events. “We’ve heard the phrase that it takes a village, right to raise a child. We’ll we figured out it takes a whole lot more to construct and interchange like this. As members of the council, we have four of us here. We are so grateful for the opening of this interchange,” said Cheryl Viegas-Walker, El Centro Council Member. Construction crews are still working on the overpass, they plan on having five lanes opened by M onday and the projected completed sometime early next month.
