Old Glory Relay stops in Yuma County

Red White and Blue teams nationwide pass the American Flag across the nation honoring Veterans.

This is the first time Yuma has been an official stop in the Old Glory Realy. Alan Pruitt, is excited that him and his team get the opportunity to be apart of the relay this year.

“It has really been the star of this entire journey. It has been on every conceivable military transport that you can think of and now we’re carrying it by hand across the country. ”

The relay started on September 11th in Redmond, Washington and finishing at Tampa, Florida on Veteran’s Day. Donnie Starling, the Project Development Manager of Team RWB, is looking forward on bringing communities together because of the relay.

“We’ve noticed, we’re connecting all the communities. So, wheather it’s the community of Yuma connecting with Phoenix, that’s important to us.All the little towns we go to on the way, with the folks that see us on the side of the highway, and go and get connected. That’s our theme this year, to get connected with old glory, to get them running down the road and just have a moment to share that with them. Patriotism is always important, especially to our veterans, and we want to continue to share that across the united states because we think it’s the right thing to do.”

Team members are either running, hiking, or cycling all for one symbol. Pruitt describes the American flag has a different “meaning” for each of us.

“That flag just has it’s own meaning for every single person that’s out here. Running and cycling with it, but most importantly it’s because it’s our flag.
