Locals show their support for President-elect Joe Biden

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - In Yuma County, many people are voicing support for the Country’s new president come January 20th.

Locals gathered together in celebration of the president-elect.

This, as tabulating, in Yuma County, will continue thru Thursday, November 12th.

As of Saturday, there are a little more than 1,500 provisional ballots left to be tabulated and approximately 300 early ballots remaining.

Across the country, we’ve seen Americans showing support for former vice president Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris.

The same thing is happening in Yuma, as well.

I caught up with a few Biden supporters earlier today at Carver Park.

Liz Haskell supports the new president.

“We have a lot of real problems, covid, the economy, a lot of people are hurting right now. People are looking at losing their homes, schools are disrupted. So we need to actually get to work with a plan and I think Biden has that plan,” Haskell said.

Right now, poll watchers are a hot topic in this election.

Mark Newton, a Yuma County poll watcher, explains how smooth the counting was.

“What I saw, you know, the only mistakes that I saw were actually from the poll watchers both republican and democratic is very minor things. I never saw anything that interfered with the voting process, and I watched them as they carefully counted all of the ballots sorting them and making sure that they match the number of ballots counted to match the number of check-ins of voters that they had out. It went very smoothly,” Newton explained.

Newton also praises the county recorders for working hard to make this election as fair as possible.

Haskell says she’s excited to see a woman of color as vice-president-elect.

“I’ve watched her career, you know, I lived in California when she was attorney general and as a senator, she's fierce and really competent so I feel really good about her and you know by and speech again was healing and unifying,” Haskell said.
