New facility for IV Food Bank

County officials say one in three residents in the Imperial Valley struggle with food security. To continue their fight to feed communities, the Imperial Valley Food Bank celebrated it’s brand new facility on Friday morning.

The 28,000 square foot facility allows the organization to store more food for valley residents and offer nutritional and education classes for community members.

Imperial Valley Foodbank Executive Director, Sara Griffen said the new facility will help them reach more residents in need.

” We now have more room to store more food and better food because we have better refrigeration and freezer space. Having a new facility in an area of the county that isn’t sort of hidden the way the other food bank was. And has a nice parking lot and a lobby and people are welcomed. It allows us to be hospitable to all people. ”

The $6.5 million dollar facility was funded thanks donations from local agencies and state funds and grants.
