Yuma man sentenced to 4.5 years behind bars
A man who barricaded himself in a Yuma home and kept officers at bay for several hours will spend the next four-and-a-half years behind bars.
David Xavier Garcia changed his plea to guilty in October, facing charges of misconduct involving weapons.
According to court records, residents along 11th Avenue reported seeing Garcia jumping into backyards and walking on rooftops.
Garcia then barricade himself inside one of the homes with a family inside.
As officers tried to coerce Garcia into coming out, Garcia demanded to see his daughter.
After holding officers at bay for several hours, he came out of the home without incident.
Garcia’s wife told News 11, ” My husband is a very good father, family-oriented, and always suffered from mental issues that he never got treated for. We’ve been married for 5 years, and our daughter wants to have her father back. ”
Garcia will receive credit for 158 days that he previously served.
