Imperial Valley gives back on Red Shoe Day!

What was supposed to be a precious moment for the Irsula Burnworth , took an unexpected turn when her firstborn Kendall, was born six weeks premature.

” She couldn’t necessarily breathe on her own, control on her own body temperature. And eat on her own. And those are the things that we needed to get her to do before we were able to come home. And they weren’t sure if it was going to be one week or even six weeks, ” said Burnworth .

Burnworth and her husband were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House during that tough time. That’s why they support ” Red Shoe Day. ”

Chuck Day, President of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego said, ” We really truly believe that keeping families close is the key to helping these outcomes in happening more quickly. For families to get home more sooner . ”

Thanks to the love and care from the charity, Burnworth is now paying it forward.

Burnworth added, ” Having the Ronald McDonald House close by it gives you that comfort that if something were to happen medically you can run right across the street or drive down the street just like how we had to. ”

Ronald McDonald himself said every dollar makes a difference.

” Everybody can be part of something wonderful. Everybody can help whether it’s in a big way or small way. We’re always looking for volunteers at Ronald McDonald house and whatever you can do to help those families in need is a great thing. And you’ll end u with a big smile at the end of the day too. ”

El Centro Regional Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Adolphe Edwards said 25 percent of the families who rely on the Ronald McDonald House come directly from the Imperial Valley.

” We are so thankful that we actually have an ability to transfer to tertiary hospitals and complex healthcare operations in the San Diego market because we don’t have those resources here. ”

The organization continues to serve the community, always putting a smile on children’s faces.

Karina Lopez, Pioneers Memorial Hospital Public Affairs Liaison said, ” Having a sick child in any capacity is always very stressful. If he can bring them a little bit of joy today, we’re greatly appreciative of that. ”
