Skydiver killed in collision with big rig
A skydiver dies after getting hit by a big rig along a northern California highway.
It happened Thursday afternoon on Highway 99 near Lodi.
The California Highway Patrol says the victim was skydiving with a group of seven people when strong winds blew her off course and into the path of the semi. After hitting the truck, she slammed into the shoulder of the highway.
Paramedics pronounced the 28-year-old woman dead at the scene.
The CHP says the initial accident caused a chain-reaction wreck.
The woman made the jump as part of a group from the Skydive Lodi Parachute Center. It’s had numerous fatalities in recent years. The FBI raided the facility last year, confiscating both records and video footage.
The center’s operators aren’t commenting on Thursday’s accident.
