Crossroads Mission celebrates 60th Anniversary: Why each year sober is a milestone?

As the Crossroads Mission marks the milestone of their 60th anniversary, the non-profit also celebrate other milestones behind those sacred doors.

No matter if someone is 20-years sober or it’s the first day of their addiction recovery, the mission recognizes that sobriety is a lifelong battle for recovering addicts.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, between 40%- 60% of people recovering from substance addiction relapse.

So every month, the mission celebrates its staff’s sobriety birthdays.

They said each year hitting that milestone is important because it shows new and current Alcohol and Narcotics Anonymous members what sobriety looks like.

Kitchen supervisor, Alex Garcia was one of the three Crossroads Mission employees celebrating their September sobriety birthday.

Garcia has been sober since September 11, 2018.

He revealed, ” I’m the type of person that when I’m successful in life I tend to just ruin it instead of taking other avenues to continue my success. ” Garcia added, ” If you just look at life from a different perspective there [will be] that change you’re looking for. ”

For the first time since he was 16-years-old, Garcia feels he has the tools needed to continue to live a clean and sober lifestyle, thanks to the New Life program he completed at the mission.

The mission hopes to continue to guide locals through their crossroads in life.

On October 12th the Crossroads Mission will be hosting a jubilee to benefit their new men’s center project.

Tickets for the fancy fundraiser dinner start at $60.

It’s to celebrate their 60 years of service in the Yuma community.
