Remain in Mexico Policy in Mexicali

Over four-thousand migrant families from the Yuma Sector have been sent to El Centro Border Patrol to then be transferred to Mexicali, Baja California to wait for their immigration court hearing.

This is all happening under the ‘Migrant Protection Protocol.’ News 11 reunited with 10-year-old Sheyla Castillo after her family fled from Central America back in July. Her family will have their third asylum-court hearing October 21st in San Diego.

” I feel really scared when I’m in the courtroom, let’s see what they tell us, maybe we pass, or we have to wait again for another meeting, ” said Castillo.
