New Photos: Pallet fire threatens buildings

We have new details on and new photos of a fire that broke out Friday evening near the Cocopah Casino.

Firefighters tell us the blaze started in a pallet yard near County 14th just east of Highway 95.

Photos show just how close it burned to the corrals at nearby Saddles of Joy.

Somerton Cocopah Fire and Rural Metro immediately moved to protect buildings. MCAS and City of Yuma firefighters provided backup.

Crews worked into the night to douse all the flames and overhaul the scene.

The Red Cross opened a cooling station at the Refinery Church for those displaced by the fire. Its volunteers also provided water to fire crews.

Rural Metro will remain on the scene throughout the night to make sure the fire doesn’t reignite.

Arizona Public Service says it expects to restore power to the property on Saturday.
