Counterfeit money seized, one arrested by Yuma BP agents

Agents working at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint seized $500 in counterfeit currency and arrested an undocumented immigrant during an attempted smuggling event Sunday.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Wellton agents referred a black 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt with three occupants to the secondary inspection following a Border Patrol canine alert.

According to CBP, the driver and front-seat passenger were U.S. citizens from Yuma and Winchester, Calif. The backseat passenger was identified as a Mexican national unlawfully present in the U.S.

After searching the vehicle, agents also discovered five counterfeit $100 bills in the front passenger door.
