Strange lights reported in the sky over Yuma
New information now on those strange lights people have been reporting in the night sky over the Yuma Foothills.
KYMA began receiving calls about the lights around 8:30 Tuesday night.
Witnesses report seeing a group between 10 and 12 very bright lights in the southern skies.
They say the lights remain constant for several seconds, and then disappear, only to reappear a short time later.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office tells us they believe the lights are flares from the Barry M. Goldwater Bombing Range south of Yuma.
Sources at Marine Corp Air Station Yuma confirm that theory. They say the lights are aircraft parachute flares used to illuminate battlefields during night combat.
The Goldwater Range frequently hosts training exercises for various branches of the military.
