Cody’s Closet gives away 100 beds and mattresses to families in need
Meagan Quinonez , a mother of four had fallen on hard times and moved her family to the Imperial Valley for a new beginning.
” Got into a situation where we did need some furniture because I mean I lost my job and stuff like that, ” said Quinonez .
She knows that other families are also struggling to make ends meet as well.
” There’s a very huge need in the valley. You can also notice sometimes. A lot of stores going down. A lot of jobs going out. I mean we are going in crisis. But thank God we have people that still help. ”
But thanks to Cody’s Closet inaugural ” Beds of Knowledge ” back to school event, her family is one of a hundred who received a free bed and mattress and necessities to start the new school year.
Quinonez added, ” It’s a release because you know somebody is going to help you and it is something that you’re going to need from them. ”
Local agencies and law enforcement lent a helping hand.
Centinela State Prison Public Information Officer, Dana Mortimer said, ” We’re always willing to assist. Not only a lot of the employees they assisted financially. Some couldn’t be here. They donated items. They sent them in. ”
For Heather White, director of Cody’s Closet, there’s satisfaction knowing that they’re helping children in need get a better night sleep.
White said, ” The ones that were sleeping on the floor or on air mattresses are will now have a bed to sleep in. So they can have a good night sleep for school. That’ll make a big difference in their education. ”
