Border Patrol takes sex offender into custody

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have prevented another convicted sex offender from re-entering the country illegally.

Agents say they picked up Edwin Leonel Paiz-Lorenzana Tuesday afternoon about 29-miles west of the Calexico West Downtown Port of Entry.

A criminal history screening revealed Paiz was convicted of sexual lewdness with a child under 14 in Los Angeles in 2016. An immigration judge ordered his deportation in May of 2018 .

The Border Patrol says this is the second time this week El Centro-based agents have stopped a convicted sex offender from entering the country in the same location.

On Monday agents say they prevented Mauricio Moreno-Garcia from illegally crossing the border.

Garcia was convicted of sexual lewdness with a child in Nevada in 2016. A judge deported him in January of 2018 .

Both men remain in federal custody awaiting prosecution.
