Local family delivers baby girl in home bathroom 10-days before due date

It’s something you oftentimes only see in the movies.

A mom-to-be’s water breaks earlier than expected, and she has no time to get to the hospital.

This is exactly what happened to one local family in Yuma.

For seven years X-opher Garcia regretted not being in the room for the birth of his youngest daughter, Aria Garcia.

He couldn’t wait to cut the umbilical cord from his next born.

However, he wasn’t prepared for it to happen the way it did.

At 5 am Monday, September 9, X-opher and his family were faced with the unexpected.

His wife Seraphina Guzman began to feel contractions that were eight-minutes apart.

Seraphina described her contractions as, ” Really sharp cramps. They were pretty painful, I could barely walk. I just ended up getting in the tub because I didn’t know what to do. ”

X-opher remembered something his older cousin always said to him, ” Whenever you get put in a situation go headstrong in it. When an opportunity presents itself knock it out, do what you got to do. ”

It was 10-days before their due date and their baby girl just couldn’t wait to see the world.

X-opher said, ” I just heard [ Seraphina ] scream. I was like…either she’s being really exaggerating or this is it. ”

Their 7-year-old daughter Aria said, ” I saw [the baby’s] head coming out. Her head came fully out and I told daddy. ”

With his daughters by his side, X-opher was prepared to do something he’s never done before.

His wife was in the bathtub pushing, as he pulled the baby out and their two daughters were on the phone with the paramedics.

” All I could hear was the girls on the phone with 9-11 and the dispatch officer asked what their address was. Aria read the address off to Leilene and said that was our homework! ”

Just weeks before, Aria’s teacher had the students remember their address in the event of an emergency.

Things continued to fall right into place.

” I swear I sat there and held her in my hand and someone told me, hey it’s alright this is what you have to do. Someone was talking to me in my head saying the next step, ” X-opher said.

At 7:25 am Eyssra Andrea Garcia was born in the family’s bathroom.

The couple’s oldest daughter, Leilene Garcia, said, “I’m going to tell her she was born in a bathtub.”

X-opher described the moment as random yet priceless.

“It’s cool because we will all have that bond with [ Eyssra ] now because we all played a part with delivering her, and we had the worst scenario happen with the best possible outcome and every one of us did a major key to help her,” he said.

The family wants to thank the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and Rural Metro for all of their support.

Now, Aria and Leilene plan to dress Eyssra as rubber ducky for Halloween since she was born in a bathtub.
