Yuma Border Patrol grabs cash and drugs in latest busts

A pair of busts at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 80 near Wellton keeps nearly $ 100K worth of methamphetamine off the streets.

The first bust happened around 12:30 Friday afternoon.

A drug-sniffing dog alerted agents to a possible problem with a 2019 Mercedes Benz . Closer inspection uncovered meth, marijuana, heroin, drug paraphernalia, and $11-thousand in cash.

Agents arrested a 30-year-old man from Temecula, and seized the car, cash and drugs.

Then on Sunday, Border Patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle traveling through Dome Valley.

Agents stopped the car, and a K-9 sniffed out a cache of meth and pills in its spare tire.

The meth weighed in at nearly 39-pounds. It had a street valued of nearly $90-thousand.

Agents arrested a 27-year-old Mexican national for transportation of a controlled substance.
