Arizona GOP cancels Presidential primary
Arizona’s Republican Party has officially canceled itsMarch Presidential primary election.
GOP Party chair Kelli Ward hand delivered a letter today to the secretary of state informing her the Republicans will not hold a primary in March.
Ward says it will also save taxpayers millions of dollars in election costs.
The decision is not unprecedented. In the past, both parties have opted out of Presidential primary elections in years when an incumbent was running for a second term.
Kansas and South Carolina also canceled their primaries over the weekend. Nevada is expected to follow suit.
The move prevents other Republican Presidential hopefuls from challenging Trump.
Right now three candidates hope to face off with Trump in the primaries; former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, and former Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.).
