Volunteers unite to bring school supplies to lower income students

Volunteers from both from San Luis, Ariz., and San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico united to bring over 400 donations in school supplies to students and families who live in rural areas in El Golfo de Santa Clara.

An effort put together by several local churches, local stores, and both the San Luis Police Department (SLPD), and the San Luis Fire Department have. The project is called “Educacion Para Todos,” which means “Education for all.”

“This is a rural area with there is a lack of jobs, so we began moving mountains and our hearts to help those who are less fortunate,” said Maria Robles, a volunteer with Bien Estar Golbal.

Flora Maria, a mother of five who works for two jobs to provide food for her children said the situation in Santa Clara is crucial. Adding this act of kindness from the volunteers makes all the difference in the world.

“There is no work right now, there are no resources available, the fishing season is not the greatest right now either and that’s what most people live off of,” said Maria.

If you would like to donate to the local volunteer group, you can contact volunteer Maria Robles at (928) 285-3193.
