Imperial Irrigation District holding public hearings

Imperial Irrigation District ( IID ) is holding two public hearings in September about a proposed plan that will mitigate wildfire dangers in the utility’s service area.

IID says under Senate Bill 901 the district is charged with getting public comments on the plan that addresses’ wildfire risks related to electrical infrastructure, to start programs and procedures to reduce risk, and prepare for wildfire events and create program oversight.

The new law was said to be adopted after the 2018 fires that affected several areas of California.

Imperial County fire officials say there have been fires, from different causes which have affected IID’s electrical infrastructure.

An independent consultant has been said to conduct a survey of the IID service territory, where high fire hazard zones were checked and any new high or extreme fire hazards areas have been identified.

The public hearings will be held at 4:30 p.m. on September 17, at Condit Auditorium in El Centro and September 19 at IID Boardroom in La Quinta.
