American Legion Post #25 celebrating 100th Anniversary

The Boyce Aten American Legion Post #25 is celebrating their 100th Anniversary Saturday in El Centro, and invited the public to join.

The anniversary celebration and membership drive is being held Saturday, August 24 at 569 Broadway St. in El Centro. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the ceremony commences at 12 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, chips, cake, apple pie, and water between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be entertainment such as karaoke and music mix that begins at 6 p.m. in the Club 25 Lounge, which is only open to the public on the day of the event. A family information, and registration for membership information, raffle will be available as well.

Post #25 was named after Lieutenant Albert Boyce Aten, who was the first WWI member of the military from Imperial Valley to be killed in the conflict. The Boyce Aten Post #25 numbers more than 200 Legionnaires, and over 130 with the affiliated American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion.

The Post serves not only El Centro and Imperial, but more. It is said to have touched the lives of many residents of the Imperial Valley through their programs within the Four Pillars of Service: Veterans, Youth, Americanism & Security.

“The Boyce Aten American Legion Post #25 Family is excited to share both the legacy and the vision of our organization with the community,” Post #25 Commander Miguel “Mike” Lizarraga said. “We’ve done a lot of good and intend to keep doing it for a second century.”
