Body found near empty lot in El Centro

Police are currently investigating a homicide after a body was found in an empty lot on Hamilton Avenue near the railroad track in El Centro early Sunday morning.

According to the El Centro Police Department ( ECPD ), officers responded to the area due to a report of a possible shooting victim. The victim was found in the area of the railroad in an empty lot. Authorities said the victim, identified as 24-year-old El Centro resident Christopher Erasmo Torres, was dead at the time he was located.

ECPD said Torres was believed to have been in the area with his brother when they were confronted by a male individual. Following a brief verbal exchange, the suspect fired multiple rounds towards the pair and Torres was struck by a projectile as a result of the confrontation.
