Local teacher emphasizes importance of art education

Rebeca Bravo, an art teacher at Gary A. Knox Elementary School has dozens of inspirational quotes on the walls of her classroom from famous artists.

“We don’t have mistakes only happy accidents” by Bob Ross is one of them.

If you look around her classroom, you’ll also see student work, renditions of famous works of art, as well as cartoon versions of notable icons such as Mona Lisa and Frida Kahlo.

Bravo’s goal is to make sure every student that walks through her door can have fun and express themselves fully during school.

Bravo said many students don’t enjoy coming to school or think that school is boring, but she wants to change that.

She wants parents and teachers to understand that art education is just as important as science and math because it allows students to use their imagination.
