‘Non-life-threatening’ injuries for child hit by SUV

Editor’s Note: The Yuma Police Department confirmed the child suffered non-life-threatening injuries following the incident Wednesday night.

A 4-year-old boy, who went missing from his home, was struck by a Ford Expedition Wednesday night and sent to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Yuma Police Department.

Officers were responding to a missing child that had walked away from a residency in the 2100 Block of South 11 th Avenue.

While officers surveyed the area a citizen notified one of the officers that the child was in the street, according to YPD .

The child was found along Avenue A and 20 th Street across from the Circe K.

“As the officer attempted to get the child, the child was struck by a Ford Expedition driven by a 67-year-old male,” said Edith Ruiz, Public Safety Technician for the Yuma Police Department. “The officer rendered immediate aid to the child.”

The child was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center then later flown to Phoenix with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Expedition did not suffer any injuries.
