Emotional testimony given during former Marine’s court appearance

Emotional testimony from the victim was given on Monday morning at the status conference for the former Marine who is accused of killing his 20-month-old stepdaughter.

Jared Cardwell appeared in Yuma County Superior court where his lawyer argued the execution of a search warrant that involved medical information.

The motion was denied in court today but Judge Kinsey did not preclude the motion for a future date.

During the status hearing, the victim stepped forward and delivered emotional testimony about not being able to experience life events with the toddler.

Monday would’ve been her first day of kindergarten,” said the witness as she explained missing so many firsts. “He took everything from us.”

Cardwell is expected back in Yuma Superior Court on August 26 for a status hearing and his trial will begin October 23.
