Today is the busiest travel day of the summer

July 3 is one of the busiest travel days of the summer as more than one-quarter (26%) will be traveling for the Fourth of July holiday.

This is based on TripAdvisor’s Independence Day Travel Survey of more than 3,000 respondents.

The roads and airports will be busy busier than usual.

Of those traveling for the holiday, 67% are driving and 22% are flying to their destinations. In fact, 38% are traveling more than 500 miles to celebrate Independence Day.

The city of Chicago says it expects more than 2.1 million passengers to travel through its airports for the Fourth of July holiday.
