$98k worth in cocaine seized by BP agents on Interstate 8

A man was arrested last Wednesday after U.S. Border Patrol agents found nearly 10 pounds of cocaine inside his car at the checkpoint on Interstate 8.

Agents assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint approached a silver 2007 Volkswagen Jetta when an agent referred the driver to secondary inspection.

According to agents, a canine alerted to the vehicle where four bundles were hidden in an after-market compartment inside the dashboard.

Agents removed the bundles from the dashboard and tested positive for cocaine. Agents said the bundles weighed 9.88 pounds and have a street value of $98,800.

The driver, a 25-year-old Mexican citizen who possessed a Border Crosser Card, was placed under arrest and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, agents said.

The U.S. Border Patrol seized the vehicle.
