Both political parties speak on President’s visit to Yuma
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-Officials with the Arizona Republican Party confirmed to News 11 that President Donald Trump is visiting Yuma next week on Tuesday.
The Yuma Police Department (YPD) says officers will be apart of the security detail on the day of the president's visit.
President Trump was just in Yuma on June 23.
Trump's visit to Yuma was to see the 200th-mile completion of the border wall. He also participated in a roundtable briefing on border security with officials from Customs and Border Protection.
News 11's Carmen Valencia spoke with both sides of the political spectrum on why they believe President Trump's visit to our region is important.
Former Chairman with the Arizona Republican Party, Jonathan Lines, said Arizona will play a huge role in this upcoming election. That Trump's visit only helps put Yuma on the map and he wants the president to talk about restoring law and order.
 “Not necessarily that Arizona will turn purple, but we do have an important senate race. I’m sure he will show support for Martha McSally, but to also reassure how important law enforcement is, along with border patrol, the military, all those who keep this region safe," said Lines.
Others believe President Trump's visit is to get more Yumans to vote for him. Yuma County Board of Supervisors, Martin Porchas, said the county could potentially turn blue in November. Historically Yuma has been red through every election year.  “We just have to have the people get out there and vote. It will make a huge difference," said Porchas.
He told News 11 that often times when people think about Yuma, the border wall comes to mind, but he stresses there are bigger challenges the county is facing beyond the border fence.
He hopes the president addresses immigration reform as there is a growing need for farm workers that help keep the billion-dollar Ag industry afloat.
 “People want to come here and work legally and do it right. I believe that a huge issue for our county," said Porchas.
The Arizona GOP could not give our news team any further details on his visit.
