Fire investigators say wildfire started under transmission tower

Fire investigators now say that enormous wildfire north of Los Angeles started under a high-voltage transmission tower.

Arson investigators say they know exactly where the Saddleridge fire began, but they still don’t know how it started.

Southern California Edison owns the tower. It hasn’t commented on the investigators’ report.

Ironically, the fire started the same week Pacific Gas and Electric shut off power to thousands in northern and central California in an attempt to prevent electricity-sparked wildfires.

The Saddleridge fire charred nearly 8,000 acres. It damaged or destroyed 75 structures.

A man who tried to douse the flames near his home with a garden hose died after suffering a heart attack on Friday.

Thousands of people evacuated in the face of the fire. Nearby schools, colleges, and universities closed down their campuses as a precaution.

Fire crews now have the blaze 43% contained.
