Local prison sees rise in COVID-19 cases from one day to the next

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR) announced Wednesday 34 inmates have tested positive for coronavirus at the Yuma Prison Complex.

This is the first time ADCRR has reported any cases at the complex. The agency's website shows, 133 inmates have been tested for the coronavirus 89 results were negative, 34 were positive, and 10 are still pending.

Yuma's Prison Complex now has the second most positive cases in the state, behind Florence, which has 63.

News 11 recently spoke to a corrections officer who from Yuma who says officer were being mandated to work at the Florence complex in spite of its coronavirus outbreak.

Prison officials still don't know how inmates at either complex became infected.
