MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY)-Despite the fact that the government in Baja California has implemented measures to prevent mobility throughout the state, COVID-19 deaths and cases keep rising in Mexicali.

The Ministry of Health in Baja California indicates that on Monday, 99 deaths and 949 cases were confirmed in Mexicali.

This past weekend mobility increased with the celebration of Mother's Day.

The state government gave the order last Friday to close all the cemeteries over the weekend with the aim of avoiding gatherings in those places. Visiting the cemeteries on Mother's Day is a part of the Mexican tradition that is celebrated every May 10.

However, it was inevitable to see multiple people lined up at restaurants and flower shops due to the occasion.

High mobility was seen at the Calexico Port of Entry, with wait times of four hours.

Health officials say that Baja California ranks second in COVID-19 deaths.

The contagion curve has not been flattened but on the contrary, the forecasts that contagions will multiply in the coming days have been fulfilled.

Health officials say that COVID-19 infections will reach up to 15,000 people throughout the state.
