Students express gratitude for Teacher Appreciation Week
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's Teacher Appreciation Week and the students have some kind words to share to express their gratitude.
The Yuma Unified School District One organized the compilation of videos that allowed the students to show their creativity while saying thank you to their teachers.
Communication coordinator for District One, Christine McCoy said the students were excited to show their teachers how much their efforts are appreciated.
"It was really fun to see some of the creativity," said McCoy. "It ranged from a simple 'thank you' sign to action videos where, you know siblings were jumping into a pool together saying 'thank you to my teachers.'"
Since the remote learning took effect, the teachers had to step up and teach under a new method of learning. Melissa Haile, a kindergarten teacher at Palmcroft says this Teacher Appreciation Week is more important than ever.
"I think sometimes teachers don't feel like the essential workers because this is something we do all the time, but it's a little bit harder now," said Haile. "We're going through hoops trying to make this, this classroom magic happen in places that it's never really happened before."
McCoy is pleased to have teachers that can adapt well to the change. This new learning experience is different, but the students are still excited about at-home art projects and science experiments.
"District One has such an amazing team of teachers," said McCoy. "They have really stepped up and have done amazing things with their students to keep them engaged and learning."
The district will continue to send the videos on Thursday and Friday as an expression of the students' appreciation.
