Imperial County begins roadmap to recovery

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-Following the state's lead the Imperial County Board of Supervisors is developing a roadmap to recovery. 

“Little by little things will open up,” said Luis Plancarte, Imperial County Board of Supervisors Chairman.  

The plan will include guidelines for local businesses to begin opening up. Plancarte said it’s a process that will take time and will be carried out in phases. 

“Some of the commercial businesses may open at a 25% capacity or a 50% capacity,” said Plancarte. 

Before businesses can fully begin to open, the county has to see a drop in positive cases. 

“Phase one would generally be fourteen consecutive days of either continued improvement or stability in the amount of cases,” said Plancarte.

Although, seeing a complete halt in coronavirus cases is ideal, Plancarte says realistically cases will continue to increment. 

“Zero cases is not attainable, I think coronavirus is on this planet for the long term, and it will be many years before we can say there are zero cases,” said Plancarte. 

Plancarte says the roadmap to recovery will heavily be influenced by what the Imperial County Public Health Department (ICPHD)recommends for our county.

“I don't think we’ll ever look at proximity and gatherings in the same way, but little by little we will continue to improve,” said Plancarte.
