EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)  â€“ The County of Imperial says it plans to reopen a number of outdoor recreational areas.

The County says this decision was made in an effort to provide opportunities for the residents and visitors of the County to stay, "active and healthy during this stressful and challenging time."

This decision comes after Imperial County health officials reported an eighth death due to coronavirus (COVID-19), and the County currently has 163 active cases.

Areas expected to reopen include County Regional Parks, private and public golf courses, and other outdoor recreational areas.

The following County Regional Parks will reopen:

ï‚· Sunbeam Lake Park, 1750 Drew Road, Seeley, CA 92273
ï‚· Wiest Lake Park, 5351 Dietrich Road, Brawley, CA 92227
ï‚· Red Hill Park, 7581 Garst Road, Calipatria, CA 92233
ï‚· Palo Verde Park, 520 B. Ben Hulse Hwy, Palo Verde, CA 92266

The County says there will be limited access to these areas, but has not specified exactly how this will be done.

Beginning Saturday, April 25, outdoor recreational areas used for jogging, walking biking and other non-contact outdoor sports will be permitted to reopen, with restrictions and guidelines in place to limit the spread of the virus.

Park restrooms, playgrounds and playground equipment will remain closed.

If you plan to take a visit to one of Imperial County's re-opened recreational areas, the County has released guidelines on best health practices to follow.
